He didn't sound happy, but I didn't look to see what face went with the tone, because that would have meant looking away from Avery, and I didn't want to do that. I shook my head and thought, there aren't enough vampire mind tricks in the world to blank the mind of an audience this big. Nathaniel gave me neutral eyes, a careful face. He spilled my legs to either side, and jerked me up, off the desk, so that I was suddenly pressed to the front of his body, my legs wrapped around his waist.
I was sort of amazed that I'd done that much damage, though. Because, eventually, everyone says no. The next thing is, he's tall, and almost painfully thin, so that he looks even taller than he truly is. He didn't look happy to see me anymore.
